About thistle.in

Scotland, wherever Scots gather

thistle.in lists the events and the societies of Scotland and the Scottish diaspora: Burns suppers, ceilidhs, St Andrew's Day dinners and Highland Games, and the St Andrew's and Caledonian societies, Burns clubs, clan societies and pipe bands that hold them.

Most of these are announced on a society's own website, a social media page or a poster. thistle.in gathers them into one calendar for every city, which anyone can read, subscribe to or reuse.

Each record names where it came from: the organiser's own website, an open dataset, or the organiser directly. Organisers will be able to add and correct their own listings by email, on the site, or through an AI assistant.

What we stand for

Open by default. Every record can be read by anyone: a person, a crawler or an agent. Each one is served as a page, as Markdown, as JSON, in feeds and through an API.

Nothing gated. No login walls, no bot challenges on content, no pay-per-crawl.

Proof on every write. Listings change only with proof: a confirmation from the organiser, or the organisation's own website saying so. Every record names its source.

How it is paid for. Services around the data (featured placement, verification, higher API limits), never by locking the data up.
